Pulwama, Nov 26 (KNO): Dangling electric wires tied with trees, worn out poles are posing grave threat to the lives of people as well as to their property in several villages of South Kashmir's Pulwama and Shopian districts.
The residents of Rakh, Zahid Bagh areas of Pulwama district and Darbagh village of Shopian district alleged that they are living under constant fear due to low lying electric wires tied with trees in their villages and the electric wires that have been tied with trees and decaying electric poles.
They said that the electric lines touch roofs of houses and trees on roads, posing risk to life and public property. “We have been requesting the concerned department to replace the dangling and damaged electric wires and poles but our pleas fell on deaf ears,” Javid Ahmad, a resident of Rakh told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
He said that in several back to village programmes every year they demanded electric poles and wires for the area but on the ground nothing has been done. “Almost all low tension wires in our village have been tied with trees in absence of poles,” said Aadil Ahmad a resident of Zahid Bagh.
Shabir Ahmad, a resident of Darbagh while echoing the same voice said that the government has been increasing power bills almost every month but have failed in augmenting the infrastructure.
The residents of these villages said that they are living under constant fear due to low lying wires in the area but the government isn't taking their pleas seriously.
They said that LT wires often fall down in the area and anytime it can lead to a big incident for which PDD will be responsible.
Locals claimed that they have taken up their issues with administration several times but on ground nothing has been done. They urged the higher ups to look into the matter and provide new electric wires and poles.
Meanwhile, an official of the PDD acknowledged that power infrastructure needs to be enhanced in the area and the department is working to replace wires and poles in these areas. He assured that power infrastructure in the area will be upgraded soon—(KNO)
